The Foundries Department of Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP), Orissa of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has developed indigenous steel slag pots which helps save Rs.1.8 crore annually. The pots are used in RSP and Bhilai and Durgapur steel plants.

To begin with the department started production of slag pots for in-house use in 1998-99. During the year it developed two 22 tonne pots for the blast furnaces and four 27.5 tonne pots for SMS-II. The success in this field resulted in increase in production of steel slag pots during 1999-2000 to 20, 2000-01 to 23 and 25 pots in 2001-02. These pots have been used in the plant and has been supplied to the sister units .
