Gen JJ Singh, Chief of the Army Staff flagged off the Corps of Army Air Defence Mountaineering Expedition to Chaukhamba - I (7138M) at a ceremony in New Delhi today.

Since its raising, the Corps of Army Air Defence has launched three successful mountaineering expeditions to Leo Pargial (1998), Stok Kangri and Gulap Kangri (2001) and Mt Sri Kailas (2003). Corps of Army Air Defence is now attempting Chaukhamba-I (7138M), which is its maiden attempt to a peak above 7000M. Chaukhamba-I is a massive mountain, which remains scarcely climbed because of being prone to frequent avalanches and ice falls. The team consisting of 07 Officers, 01 JCO and 20 Other Ranks will be led by Lt Col Satash Kumar.

Gen JJ Singh, Chief of the Army Staff and Lt Gen CS Chima, DG Army Air Defence conveyed their best wishes for the success of the team.
