The Minister of Food & Consumer Affairs Shri Surjit Singh Barnala today reviewed the availability and price position of onions in Delhi at a meeting of senior officials of his Ministry. It was found that the arrival of onions in Azadpur Mandi has improved slightly. On October 8, about 496 tonnes of onions arrived in the mandi as against 232 tonnes on October 7. These stocks are from Nasik, Kolhapur and Mahuva in Gujarat.
The price of onion from Nasik has come down to Rs.1000 to Rs.1100 today for a 40 kg bag from Rs.1250 to Rs.1350 on October 8. For the Mahuva variety, the price has come down to Rs. 800 to Rs.1000 for 40 kg. bag from Rs.1100 to Rs.1200.
The new kharif crop of onions is expected
to reach the market in about 10 days time which would bring down the prices
significantly.
