COPPER PRODUCTION SHOWS GROWTH

The copper production in the organised sector during April-August 2003 has been 1,59,744 tonnes against 1,32,830 tonnes during the same period last year. Out of this, public sector Hindustan Copper Ltd. (HCL) produced 13,117 tonnes, the private sector Hindustan Aluminium Company Ltd. (HINDALCO) produced 68,952 tonnes and Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd. ) (SIL) produced 77,675 tonnes.

During the month of August 2003 the production of copper by the organised sector was 36,857 tonnes against a target of 38,852 tonnes. Out of this, HCL produced 2,301 tonnes, HINDALCO 17,995 tonnes and SIL 16,561 tonnes.
