PERFORMANCE OF RAILWAYS DURING APRIL-JANUARY 2002-2003
The Railways saved
a sum of Rs. 1095.76 crores in expenditure as against the budgetary
target of expenditure during the first ten months of the current
financial year 2002-2003 ending January 2003. As against the budgetary
expenditure target of Rs. 25941.69 crores for the period, the
actual expenditure was Rs. 24848.93 crores.
During the period,
the Railways earned a total sum of Rs. 33467.30 crores as against
the target of Rs. 33971.09 crores recording a shortfall of Rs.503.79
crores.
The number of passengers
booked was 4154.86 millions as compared to 4265.76 million passengers
booked during the corresponding period of the previous year, thus,
recording a shortfall of 110.90 million passengers.
During the period,
the punctuality of trains on Broad Gauge was 83.8 per cent as
compared to 82 per cent during the corresponding period of the
previous year. The punctuality on Metre Gauge was 95.4 per cent
over 96.1 per cent during the corresponding period of the previous
year.
