NATIONAL URBAN TRANSPORT DEVELOPMENT FUND TO BE SET UP DURING 10TH PLAN

The Minister of State for Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation, Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan has stated in a written reply to Shri Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi in Lok Sabha today that a National Urban Transport Development Fund (NUTDF) with a seed money of Rs. 3,000 crore would be set up during 10th Plan period. An equal amount would be raised through taxes/cesses taking the total amount available to Rs. 6,000 crore. This fund would be the prime mover for making Urban Rail Based Transport System a reality in cities.

City-wise specific projects for Rail Based Urban Transport System together with funds requirement for them would be identified and examined in consultation with the State Governments as Urban Transport is the Primary responsibility of the State Governments.
