TRACK MAINTENANCE AND MONITORING
SYSTEM
Indian Railways
is in the process of adopting modern track structures having higher
speed potential and heavier axle loads. As of now, around 53000
kilo metre of track is laid with 60 kg/52 rails. Of the total
87,184 km Broad Gauge track of the rail network, 42857 km has
already been laid with long welded rails.
During the Tenth
Five Year Plan 23000 kms track are being targeted for renewal.
Efforts are on to clear all the arrears in track renewal by March
2007. An amount of Rs. 6584 crores is to be spent to renew 16500
kms of track using the funds available under the Special Railway
Safety Fund (SRSF).
To ensure smooth
track monitoring, Railways are in the process of procuring yet
another state-of-art Track Recording Car having laser based sensors.
Track geometry is recorded through track recording cars at specified
frequency. As such, inspection, repairs and maintenance of track
are carried out regularly by following specific guidelines laid
down for the same.
