SURESH PRABHU OPENS DIALOGUE WITH NGOs
ON INTERLINKING OF RIVERS
The Task Force on
Interlinking of Rivers under the Chairmanship of Shri Suresh Prabhu
initiated a dialogue with NGOs working in the field of Environment
and Forest so as to facilitate a better understanding of the viewpoint
of all concerned here today.
The first ever dialogue
was with the NGOs and representatives from various institutions
and organizations registered with Ministry of Environment and
Forests. It was a unique dialogue as the representatives from
leading NGOs from various parts of the country attended the meeting.
The NGOs while accepting the concept of Interlinking of Rivers
of India, appealed that in addition to techno-economic and social
aspects, the issues of environment and Forest also to be considered.
Shri Prabhu ensured that the laws of land relating to these concerned
would be complied with.
The meeting was attended
by environmentalists like Shri Sunderlal Bahuguna, Shri Ashok
Khosla and Shri Kartikeya Sarabhai. Representatives from leading
NGOs also attended the meeting. Similar dialogue will follow with
NGOs in other sectors also.
