Rs. 300 CRORE APPAREL PARK TO BE SET UP IN TIRUPUR, TAMILNADU


An apparel park will soon come up in Tirupur, Tamilnadu, with an investment of Rs. 300 crore. When completed, the apparel park will provide employment to about 21,000 persons. The Textiles Minister Shri Syed Shahnawaz Hussain will lay the foundation for the project in Tirupur on 4th July 2003. Initially there will be 55 export houses in the Tirupur Apparel Park with a total covered space of 60,000 square feet. The Ministry of Textiles is providing an assistance of Rs. 17 crore for the project out of which Rs.10 crore is towards building infrastructure, Rs. 5 crore towards effluent treatment plant and Rs. 2 crore for R&D and training facilities.

Tirupur Exporters Association has already purchased 165 acres of land at a cost of Rs. 4.05 crore at Etiveerampalayam village, about 40 kilometers from Coimbatore airport. A project company, Netaji Apparel Park has also been registered with leading exporters on its Board of Directors. The Tamilnadu government has appointed New Tirupur Area Development Corporation Limited as a nodal agency to coordinate the setting up of the Park.

The Textiles Minister Shri Syed Shahnawaz Hussain has directed the Ministry officials to work in close coordination with the Tirupur Exporters Association so that there is no impediment in the project implementation and factories are put up early. He had reviewed the progress of pending project after he took charge of the Ministry and has expedited action.

Apparel Parks for Exports Scheme seeks to provide world-class infrastructure facilities for setting up modern apparel manufacturing units of international standards which will work as one-stop-shop for reputed international buyers. So far, nine such projects have been sanctioned since the formal launch of the scheme.
