RS. 20 CRORE FOR KASHMIR UNIVERSITY

The Government will be releasing a one time grant of Rs. 20 crore to Kashmir University. This information was given by Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, Union Minister for Human Resource Development (HRD), in a meeting with Shri Mufti Mohammad Syed, here today. This money has been requisitioned for urgent inputs required in the University. Dr. Joshi also stated that an exhibition showcasing the government’s various schemes and steps towards improving literacy and also the general levels of education in the country would be put up in Kashmir in the near future.

Dr. Joshi assured the J&K Chief Minister that the Union HRD Ministry would begin, right away, efforts to set up two residential schools in the Kashmir Valley, and one in Jammu. A new scheme could be mooted for these schools to be set up, and it could help in combating tendencies of separatism by bringing children into the mainstream through education in these schools. These schools would be of the standard of Kendriya Vidyalayas. Shri Mufti Mohammad Syed, informed Dr. Joshi that land for one such school had already been made available in Anantnag in Kashmir.

The J&K Chief Minister, lauding the Government’s initiative, the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, stated that universalisation of Elementary Education would be implemented at the quickest possible pace in J&K. This would help in creating employment opportunities in thousands when teachers are recruited for the programme, besides fulfilling the urgent and important task of imparting literacy to children.
