The Rourkela
Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India (SAIL), a public
sector undertaking of the Steel Ministry, has recorded a 16 per
cent growth over the previous year by producing 1.05 million tonnes
of hot metal from three blast furnaces during the period April-November
2002. It achieved a growth rate of 13 per cent and 14 per cent
by producing 0.93 million tonnes of continuous cast slabs and
0.94 million tonnes of saleable steel.
The Plant continued
its endeavor to maximise the production of value added items and
achieved a record growth of 41 per cent in the HR plates and sheets,
followed by 32 per cent in HR coils, 31 per cent in ET plates
and 20 per cent in HR coils. The Plant achieved a 12 per cent
growth in the saleable steel despatch during the first 8 months
of the current fiscal compared to the corresponding period last
year.
