EXHIBITION
ON GOOD URBAN GOVERNANCE INAUGURATED
Minister of State
for Urban Development & Poverty Alleviation Shri Pon. Radhakrishnan
inaugurated an exhibition and conference on "Good Urban Governance
– Making Cities Work" here today. Speaking on the occasion
he said that forging Public – Private – People’s partnership in
all activities affecting the citizens should be the new mantra
for good urban governance. Shri Radhakrishnan said that the government
has setup the Urban Reforms Incentive Fund (URIF) with an allocation
of Rs. 500 crores to speed up reform agenda at the state level
in respect of the Repeal of the Urban Land Ceiling Act, rationalization
and reduction of stamp duties and rationalization of rent control
laws. The reform agenda could address introduction of computerization
in municipal activities, reform in property tax and enhancement
of collection efficiencies.
The three day
conference will provide a platform for all the stakeholder to
meet and share the experiences and learn from the best practices
for the efficient management and administration of cities. The
exhibition organized on this occasion reflects the latest state
of the art technologies dealing with basic amenities and facilities
like water supply, sewerage, drainage, water management of the
domestic and municipal level as well as hospital waste management.
Government departments,
Municipal functionaries, utility providers, technology groups,
NGOs, citizen groups and National & International institutions
are taking part in the event.
