RAILWAY WEEK FROM APRIL 10
The 48th
Railway Week will be celebrated all over the country from April
10 to 16, 2003 , to mark the advent of first train in India on
April 16, 1853 from Boribundar to Thane on 34 kilometre long route.
This year’s Railway
Week assumes significance as the year long celebrations of 150
glorious years of Indian Railways, which was opened by the Prime
Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee on April 15, 2002 at New Delhi,
will culminate on April 10, 2003 with a closing ceremony function
to be held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium with a laser show on the
evolution of Railways in India followed by a cultural pageant
staged by the renowned artiste Shiamak Davar . The cultural pageant
will be preceded by a function wherein Ministry of Railways select
officials would be honoured with prizes for their outstanding
performances during the last one year.
The national
level central function will be held at Chennai on April 16, 2003,
wherein the Railway Minister Shri Nitish Kumar will give away
prizes to officials for their exemplary performances representing
all disciplines of Indian Railways at the apex Zonal, Divisional
and Production Units level to be followed by a cultural pageant
including laser show.
The year long
programme spread over the all Indian Railways has been celebrated
with fanfare, including Steam Heritage Runs reliving the introduction
of first train in Mumbai 150 years ago, Exhibition on Wheels Train
showcasing strides made by the nation in all spheres of life and
the growth of Indian Railways and several other events highlighting
achievements and development of India.
