JUDICIOUS USE OF NATURAL MINERALS

The Section 18 of Mines and Minerals (Development and Regulation) Act, 1957, inter-alia, enjoins upon the Central Government to take all such steps as may be necessary for the conservation and systematic development of minerals in India. In accordance with this Act, the Central government have notified Mineral Conservation and Development Rules 1988 (MCDR) for conservation and systematic development of minerals.

Mine owners are required to submit mining plan in accordance with the provisions of MCDR which takes into consideration the conservation of minerals, systematic development of mine and protection of environment. Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM)/State Governments approve the mining plan after careful scrutiny and monitor the working of mine as per the approved mining plan and suggest suitable steps as per MCDR.
