INCREASED CENTRAL ALLOCATION FOR
JUDICIARY
The Central allocation
for judiciary in the States under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme
has been increased to Rs. 700 crore during the Tenth Five Year
Plan period as compared to Rs. 385 crore during the Ninth Five
Year Plan. In addition, Rs. 100 crore has been provided for upgradation
and improvement of infrastructure of High Courts during the Tenth
Plan period.
Out
of Rs. 100 crore provided, Rs. 18 crore has been allocated for
the High Courts during the current financial year 2002-2003.
Meanwhile,
annual allocation under Centrally Sponsored Scheme for development
of infrastructural facilities for the judiciary
in States has been gradually increased since the Scheme was first
launched in 1993-94 on a 50:50 cost sharing basis
between
the Centre and the States. The Central allocation under the Centrally
Sponsored Scheme has been increased from Rs. 48 crore
in 1998-99 to Rs. 55 crore in 1999-2000 and to Rs. 74.95 crore
in 2000-2001. It has been increased to Rs. 108 crores during the
current financial year 2002-2003.
