FOUNDATION STONE LAID FOR LINK ROAD CONNECTING DWARKA WITH SOUTH DELHI

Minister for Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation Shri Ananth Kumar laid here today the foundation stone of Link Road connecting Dwarka with South Delhi. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the construction of the Link Road would be completed by the end of next year. Stating that India is witnessing rapid urbanisation, Shri Ananth Kumar said that the villages cannot be left in isolation and their development needs to be integrated with the process of urban development. Announcing that 15 villages which fall in the Dwarka region would be developed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) by providing civic amenities and infrastructural facilities, Shri Ananth Kumar said that more than 3,500 houses constructed by DDA would be handed over to the allottees in the next few days.

Addressing the gathering, Lt. Governor of Delhi Shri Vijay Kapoor said that Dwarka would be connected with various parts of Delhi through roads and rail network, thus enabling the residents of Dwarka to realise their true potential. He further stated that the policy of large scale acquisition of land, being followed at present, has certain drawbacks and it should be reviewed while preparing the new Master Plan for Delhi.

Member of Parliament Dr. Sahib Singh Verma was also present on the occasion. This Link Road has a length of approximately 7.00 Km between NH-8 and Dwarka sub-city. Out of this, about 1.7 Km between NH-8 to old Delhi Gurgaon Road (old NH-8) would be upgraded by PWD and the rest 5.3 Km. Would be constructed by DDA.
