REPORT OF THE
REVIEW COMMITTEE ON WAR HISTORY SUBMITTED
The report of the Review Committee
on publication of official war histories has been submitted. The
report was submitted by the Chairman of the Committee, Shri NN
Vohra former Defence Secretary to the Defence Minister Shri George
Fernandes here today. Lt. Gen (Retd) Satish Nambiar former Deputy
Chief of Army Staff and Dr. SN Prasad, military historian are
the other two members of the committee.
The committee was set up in
October 2001 following acceptance of the recommendations of the
Group of Ministers on National Security System on the issue of
publication of the War Histories of the 1962 conflict with China,
the 1965 and 1971 Indo-Pak Wars and the history of ‘Operation
Pawan’ by Indian Peace Keeping Force in Sri Lanka.
When the committee was set
up, it was asked to examine the related files of the said conflicts
available in the Ministries of Defence and External Affairs with
a view to recommending or rejecting their publication for open
sale.
