SHRI SHARAD YADAV ASSUMES CHARGE


Shri Sharad Yadav, has taken over as Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution here today. He succeeds Shri Shanta Kumar, Minister for Rural Development.

After assuming charge, the Minister addressed a meeting of senior officers of his ministry and underlined the need for dedicated work in streamlining the public distribution system to reach foodgrains to the poorest of the poor. Speaking to media persons shortly after taking over charge, the minister said the main challenge facing the ministry was to distribute the surplus foodgrains available with the central pool. The very purpose of having separate ministry for Food and Public Distribution is to ensure food security at national level and all out efforts will be made to meet the challenge; the minister said.
