RSP EARNS RS. 6.5 CRORE FROM COAL CHEMICALS IN APRIL


Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) of the Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) achieved a Net Sales Realisation (NSR) of Rs.6.5 crore, in Coal Chemicals, in the month of April 2002, which included a record despatch of 6061 tonnes of crude tar. This is the best achieved record since inception. The NSR for Coal Chemicals during 2001-02 was Rs.33.39 crore.

Coal Chemicals form the chief raw material for manufacture of dyes, pharmaceuticals, insecticides, pesticides, flavours, perfumes, rubber chemicals, carbon black for tyres, plastics and many other products indispensable to modern day living. Major by-products of RSP are Extra Hard Pitch, Anthracene Oil, Light Creosote Oil (LCO), Light Oil, Hot pressed Naphthalene, Carbolic Oil and Ammonium Sulphate. Anthracene Oil is marketed to M/s Hitech Carbon and M/s Ralsen Carbon Black. RSP's LCO is used as a substitute for furnace oil in CPP-1 and Hot Strip Mill.
