CNG NORMS

Certain statements have appeared in a section of the press in the last few days pertaining to CNG conversion kits and the new CNG norms notified on 19.11.2001, which are scheduled to come into force from 19.5.2002. A number of persons/firms have already obtained type approval certificates under the existing CNG Notification dated 9.2.2000. It is clarified that those who have obtained the type approval certificates issued under the existing CNG notification dated 9.2.2000 are allowed a grace period of six months from 19.5.2002 to get their certificates revalidated/updated in terms of the new Notification, i.e. they will have to complete the revalidation of certificates by 19.11.2002. The testing agencies are required to carry out only those additional tests that have become necessary in view of the tighter emission and safety norms mandated by the new Notification. The existing certificates, if not revalidated in accordance with new CNG Notification, would stand lapsed with effect from 19.11.2002.
