SLOVAK STATE SECRETARY OF ECONOMY MEETS RAMAN SINGH

        Dr.Raman Singh, Minister of State for Commerce & Industry, said that there is good potential for joint venture in the fields of marketing and finishing of textiles, chemicals and pesticides, crystal ware in between India and Slovakia. In a meeting with Mr.Peter Brno, State Secretary, Ministry of Economy of Slovakia, here today, Dr.Raman Singh expressed happiness about the transition Slovakia has made to the market economy and informed that India is going through the similar situation. The Minister said that both the countries share very warm and friendly relations and it should be utilised for increasing the bilateral economic relations through the joint efforts from industries of the both the sides. Dr.Singh said that India has been exporting agricultural commodities, chemicals, iron & steel, textiles and manufacturing items including garments and carpets to Slovakia. Major items of import from Slovakia include chemicals, polymers, steel items and boilers etc. India’s exports to Slovakia in the year 2000-2001 were US$9.39 million where as imports from Slovakia were US$6.89 million. Both the leaders termed the discussion fruitful and satisfactory.
