KIOCL LOCATES IRON ORE DEPOSITS AT RAMANADURGA
The Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. (KIOCL) has located iron ore deposits at Ramanadurga in Bellary, Karnataka. The estimated extent of iron ore reserve at the place is 220 million tonnes. KIOCL has applied to the Department of Mines and Geology, Government of Karnataka for grant of mining lease for exploitation of Ramanadurga Deposits.
The agreement period of KIOCL for exploiting iron ore at Kudremukh expired on July 24, 1999. The Company is continuing its mining operations as it has been given two short term work permits of one year each by the State Government in July 1999 and July 2000. The Company was given 3 months extensions of their work permit from July 25, 2001 and thereafter, another one year from October 25, 2001 by the Karnataka Government. A writ petition on the extension of lease for 20 years is in the Supreme Court.
