13NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON IN-HOUSE R&D IN INDUSTRY
The 15th National Conference on In-House R&D in Industry opens here on Thursday and this time it has decided to discuss life-sciences which is witnessing new developments at rapid pace opening up fresh opportunities in health-care, nutrition and increasing crop yield. Hence, the topic chosen is "life-sciences and new business opportunities" with focus on mechanisms of bio-technology. The conference organised jointly by the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry, will be inaugurated by the Minister of State for Science & Technology Shri Bachi Singh Rawat.
The DSIR has been organising this conference since 1987 addressing contemporary issues relating to industry and the in-house research and development system. It has become an important forum for exchange of ideas, amongst the industrial R&D system, national R&D set-up and the Government. The DSIR also gives away awards for outstanding achievements for in-house R&D units in industry. State Governments have an important role to play in promoting bio-technology by becoming real stakeholders and the conference provides them also, a forum to showcase their strategies and plans.
