'20'SHRI RAM NAIK CONGRATULATES CAIRN ENERGY FOR OIL DISCOVERY IN RAJASTHAN
Shri Ram Naik, Hon’ble Minister for Petroleum & Natural gas, congratulated M/s. Cairn Energy (I) Pty. Ltd. on making second oil discovery in the onland block RJ-ON-90/1 located in Barmer District (Rajasthan). The well was directionally drilled to a total depth of 1837 metre (measured depth) and encountered several hydrocarbon bearing zones below 1400 metres. The well tests result produced a cumulative stabilised flow rate of 2075 barrels per day of 41-42 degree of API oil, which is a light good quality oil, through a half-inch choke. Tests are continuing.Based on about 28 square Km. size of the structure and present results of the well RJ-H-1, this is expected to lead the establishment of a commercial discovery.
The exploration well RJ-H-1 is located about 50 kms. North of the Guda-2 oil discovery well drilled in August 1999, which produced 2000 barrel per day of good quality light oil. It may be recalled that the Production Sharing Contract for the block RJ-ON-90/1 was signed by Government of India with Shell India Development Production BV (Shell) in 1995 and Cairn Energy had acquired 50% stakes and operatorship in the block in 1999
