VICE PRESIDENT TO GIVE AWAY NATIONAL AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE IN CORPORATE GOVERNANCE

    The Vice President Shri Krishan Kant will give away the National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance to the corporate sector at a function to be presided over by the Union Minister of Law, Justice and Company affairs Shri Arun Jaitley here on November 19, 2001. The Chairman of the National Commission to Review the Working of the Constitution and a former Chief Justice of India Shri Justice M.N.Venkatachalaiah, who headed the jury for these National Awards, will also be present on the occasion.

    The National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance have been instituted by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India to enable the Indian corporates and institutions to embrace enthusiastically the emerging ideal of best practices in corporate governance and to be competitive and stand tall along with the best in the world.

    Corporate governance is no longer a nicety or a fancy document but an imperative of today’s competitive necessity vis-a-vis both stakeholders and customers.

    The Awards will be given to three companies, one winner and two runners up. Awards will also be given to Company Secretaries of awardee companies. Company Secretaries are custodians of corporate governance in companies.

    The Institute of Company Secretaries (ICSI) is the pioneer professional body in creating the awareness about corporate governance amongst the Indian Corporates since 1995.
