NMDC PRODUCES MORE DIAMOND The National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC), a public sector undertaking of the Steel Ministry has produced 6603 carats of diamond, 13 per cent more than its target of 5831 carats during the month of October, 2001. It has produced 12.72 lakh tonnes of iron ore achieving 99 per cent of its target. Cumulative production of diamond from April-October, 2001 has been 45627 carats, 17 per cent more than the target. Iron ore production during the period has been 77.11 lakh tonnes, 96 per cent of its target.During October,2001, the company has sold 14. 88 lakh tonnes iron ore and 2096 carats of diamond. Cumulative sale of iron ore during April-October,2001 has been 97.35lakh tonnes and that of diamond is 33294 carats. During the same period last year, the company produced 96.76 lakh tonnes of iron ore and 2385 carats of diamonds.
The company has earned a net profit before tax (NPBT)of Rs.29.21 crore during October and Rs158.37 crore during April-October,2001. Its cumulative NPBT has been more than the NPBT of Rs149.80 crore during the same period last year. The October NPBT has also crossed the target of Rs23.06 crore.
