The Raksha Mantri, Shri George Fernandes has condoled the demise of Brigadier (Retd) T K Theogaraj, the hero of Khemkaran battle. Following is the text of the condolence message: -

"I am sad to learn the demise of Brigadier T.K. Theogaraj at Madurai. Popularly known as the hero of Khemkaran, Brigadier Theogaraj was a highly dedicated officer of the Indian Army. The whole nation remembers with gratitude his valour when he commanded the Armoured Brigade at Khemkaran Sector during 1965 Indo-Pakistan war and knocked down as many as 40 Patton Tanks, which were considered indestructible at that time. Brigadier Theogaraj was awarded Mahavir Chakra for his outstanding role in that operation.

I send my condolences to the bereaved family.

May his soul rest in peace."

It may be recalled that Brigadier TK Theogaraj passed away on November 12, 2001 at his residence in Madurai. The last rites are being performed today in his native place in Tirunelveli district.
