HRD PROGRAMMES ON RURAL WATER SUPPLYAND SANITATION SECOTR

    Sustainable management of rural water supply needs not only the engineering systems but also community participation and empowerment, together with adequately trained professional and sensitized planners, administrators and decision makers. To build up a human resources base of appropriately trained personnel to serve the needs of the rural water supply and sanitation sector, training courses and workshops are conducted by Ministry of Rural Development under National Human Resource Development Programme (NHRDP). Ministry has released Rs.43.78 lakh for conducting HRD training courses and workshops in various States through different organisations.

    The Ministry has released an amount of Rs.10.81 lakh to Centre for Environmental Science & Technology, Department of Environmental Engineering, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore, Karnataka under Human Resource Development Programme.

    Rs.4.57 lakh has been released to Gandhigram Rural Institute, Gandhigram, Tamil Nadu for conducting 36 Training Courses in Sourthern/Western Zone under National HRD Programme during 2001-2002.

    Ministry has released Rs.5.10 lakh to All India Institute of Hygiene and Public Health (AIIHPH), Kolkata, Rs.2 lakh to the State Government of Mizoram for organising the Regional Workshop on "Rainwater Harvesting and Recharge Structure in Aizwal, Mizoram and Rs.6.30 lakh to Environmental Sanitation Institute, Ahmedabad for conducting 24 training courses on low cost sanitation.

    An amount of Rs.15 lakh has been released towards second instalment against the total approved cost of Rs.49.80 lakh to Water & Power Consultancy Services (WAPCOS) India Ltd. For consultancy services for pilot project on rain water harvesting in 11 districts of the States of Arunachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu during the year 2001-2002.

    Ministry has released Rs.3457.80 lakh to Gujarat Water Supply and Sewerage Board, Gandhinagar towards second instalment of funds against the provisional allcoation of Rs.7837 lakh during 2001-2002 for execution/completion of schemes to provide safe drinking water facilities to rural habitations and schools under the Centrally Sponsored ARWSP. Besides this, Rs.2.50 lakh have been provided to Gujarat Water Supply & Sewerage Board, Gandhinagar towards Monitoring & Instalment Units for the year 2001-2002.
