ASSAM INCIDENT NOT DUE TO PULSE POLIO
It has been reported in a section of the press that following Pulse Polio doses in Assam, one child died and several children become sick. It is clarified that the pulse polio programme is due to be held in Assam only on December 2, 2001. The programme under which this incident is reported to have occurred is the Pulse Vitamin A programme, which was implemented by the Government of Assam on November 11, 2001 for children below three years.
Vitamin A is not expected to cause any fatal adverse reaction, however, to investigate the matter, a Central team has already been despatched to Assam and the State Government has also ordered an enquiry into this incident.
