WASTELANDS DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS FOR NORTH-EAST

    Ministry of Rural Development is making all out efforts for development of North-Eastern region through generation of employment, alleviation of poverty and improving infrastructure. More and more areas of the North-Eastern region of the country has been covered under Integrated Wastelands Development Programme (IWDP).

    The Ministry of Rural Development has released a total amount of Rs.693.67 lakh to the State Governments of Nagaland, Assam and Mizoram for implementation of Wastelands Development Programme.

    Ministry has released Rs.284.29 lakh to the six districts of Nagaland for wastelands development. These districts are Tuensang, Kohima, Mon, Dimapur, Phek, Mokokchung. As per allocation, Rs.28.13 lakh has been released to Tuensang, Rs.27.90 lakh to Kohima, Rs.28.13 lakh for Mon, Rs.28.13 lakh for Phek, Rs.72 lakh to Mokokchung and Rs.1 crore to Dimapur district of Nagaland. The amount will be utilised for the implementation of Integrated Wastelands Development Progrmme during 2001-2002.

    Ministry of Rural Development has released a sum of Rs.240.22 lakh to the 11 districts of Assam for Wastelands Development Programmes. As per allocation, Rs.20.93 lakh has been released to Dhemaji, Rs. 12.38 lakh to Tinsukhia, Rs. 25.34 lakh to Dibrugarh, Rs. 26.01 lakh to Kokrajhar, Rs.28.13 lakh to Morigaon, Rs.26.72 lakh to Cachar, Rs.14.37 lakh to Sonitpur, Rs.27 lakh to Golaghat, Rs.27 lakh to Karbi Anglong, Rs.20.25 lakh to Karimganj and Rs.12.09 lakh to Jorhat district of Assam for wastelands development.

    Ministry has released a sum of Rs.169.16 lakh to the 5 districts Mizoram. As per allocation Rs.27.90 lakh has been released to Lunglei, Rs.27.84 lakh to Lawngtlai, Rs.28.03 lakh to Kolasib, Rs.39.24 lakh to Champhai, Rs.46.15 lakh to Aizwal district of Mizoram. The above released funds will be utilised for wastelands development.
