VENAKIAH NAIDU CALLS UPON VOs TO HAVE TRANSPARENCY IN THEIR FUNCTIONING IN THE REMOTE PARTS OF THE COUNTRY
Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu, Minister for Rural Development and Chairman, Executive Committee, CAPART convened a meeting of the Chairpersons of the nine Regional Committees (RCs) of CAPART. It is to review the performance of the RCs and improve their out-reach to cover the Voluntary Organisations (VOs) located in the remote parts of the country. There are nine Regional Committees of CAPART, working in Ahmedabad, Bhubaneshwar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Lucknow, Chandigarh and Patna. Addressing the Chairpersons of the 7 present RCs,
the Minister for Rural Development highlighted the need for a close interaction with the
Chairpersons of the RCs. The Chairpersons represent the public face of CAPART and are
responsible for the image of their committees before the voluntary organisation and the
general public.
Shri Naidu stressed the need to implement the Policy Guidelines in letter and spirit. In this context, he emphasised the Governments determination to have transparency in the functioning of the CAPART as well as voluntary organisations and for better coordination with the State Governments.
Shri Naidu directed the Chairpersons that information on all projects sanctioned by the Regional Committees should be conveyed that to the District Collectors as well as the Gram Panchayats where the projects are being implemented.
Shri Naidu also emphasised the need for CAPART to reach out to the VOs in the uncovered areas and also promote voluntarism by holding workshops all over. In this connection, he impressed upon the need for covering remote areas particularly the North East.
Shri Anna Hazare, the noted social worker from Maharashtra emphasised the need for close cooperation and interaction and felt that selfless service on the part of voluntary organisations would ensure the improvement of rural areas.
The meeting was attended by Shri Amit Kumar Mukherjee, Shri Kripa Prasad Singh, Prof. (Mrs.) N. Vijaya, Shri Indeshwar Boori, Prof. R.D. Garg, Shri B.L. Patil and Shri Anna Hazare.
