PRESS RELEASE
Today, during the Summit Meeting of the Indian Prime Minister H.E. Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and President of the Russian Federation H.E. Mr. Vladimir Putin, the following four documents, strengthening our strategic partnership and consolidating the ongoing cooperation, were signed:-
1. Moscow Declaration between India and Russia on International Terrorism
This document affirms at the highest level the position of both countries that International terrorism is a threat to peace and security, a grave violation of human rights and crime against humanity India and the Russian Federation support the adoption on the basis of international law decisive measures against all States, which support terrorism. Violent actions perpetuated under the slogan of self-determination are in reality acts of terrorism mostly with strong international links. The two sides also resolved to further develop cooperation in struggle against new challenges in international terrorism. The document sets out the position of both countries regarding the development of the situation in and around Afghanistan and emphasizes cooperation between the two countries. Both countries also called for early completion of relevant Conventions against terrorism at the United Nations.

2. Memorandum on Implementation of Kudankulam NPP Project.
This Memorandum paves the way for implementation of Kudankulam Nuclear power plant Project including setting up and operation of two 1000 megawatt Nuclear Power Plants in Kudankulam, Tamil nadu, on the basis of the Agreement between the two countries signed on November 20, 1988.

3. Protocol of Cooperation between Astrakhan Region of Russian Federation and the State of Gujarat of the Republic of India.
This Protocol, signed in the context of the Agreement on promoting inter-regional cooperation between the regions of the Russian Federation and the States of India, concluded during President Putins visit to India in October 2000, would promote cooperation between the Astrakhan Region and the State of Gujarat which are also important points in the development of the North-South transport corridor. Cooperation in traditional and new areas is also envisaged.

4. A Memorandum of Intentions between the ministry of the Russian Federation for Civil Defence Emergencies and Elimination of Consequences of Natural Disasters and the department of Science & Technology of India on Cooperation in the field of emergency prevention and response will be signed.
The areas of cooperation include: Exchange of information and experience in emergency prevention, monitoring and response; Forecasting of emergencies and assessment of their consequences; Training, research and joint conferences, and Mutual assistance with equipment and technologies.
