TRIBUNAL UPHELD THE BANNING OF DEENDAR ANJUMAN BY CENTRALGOVERNMENT
The Central Government declared the "Deendar Anjuman" as an unlawful association under Section 3(1) of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967) vide notification No. S.O. 373(E) dated 28th April, 2001, as the activities of Deendar Anjuman were detrimental to the peace, communal harmony, internal security and maintenance of secular fabric of the Indian society.
In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of Section 5 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967 (37 of 1967), the Central Government constituted the "Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal", for the purpose of adjudicating whether or not there was sufficient cause for declaring the Deendar Anjuman as an Unlawful Association, consisting of Mr. Justice Manmohan Sarin, Jude of the Delhi High Court vide Notification No. 448(E) dated 22nd May, 2001.
The Tribunal in its order dated 27.10.2001 has inter-alia held that considering the findings on the legal submissions and analysis of evidence and records the Tribunal is satisfied that there is sufficient cause for banning Deendar Anjuman as an unlawful association. Accordingly, Tribunal, in terms of Section 4 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, has confirmed declaration of Deendar Anjuman as an unlawful association on 28.4.2001.
