18VSPS SALES TURNOVER UP 24 PER CENT
Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) of the Ministry of Steel has recorded a sales turnover of Rs.302 crore in October 2001achieveing a growth of 24 per cent over the same month last year. It is also the best October turnover since its inception. The cumulative turnover of Rs. 2104 crore for the first 7 months of this fiscal has shown a growth of 23 per cent over the corresponding period last year (1717 crore). Since inception this is the best cumulative sales turnover for the period April to October. The domestic sales during this period went up by 24 per cent and the exports were up by 9 per cent over the same period last year.
The production of 1908,456 tonnes of hot metal, 1,678,341 tonnes of liquid steel and 1,535,393 tonnes of saleable steel during the period April-October, 2001 registered a growth of 14 per cent, 8 per cent and 13 per cent respectively over the same period last year. The performance of VSP in most of the major areas were the best for any October month since inception.
The plant has also created history by developing an in house technology to carry out the repair of a 60 mw turbo generator (TG-2). This task was accomplished within a short time span of four and half months which otherwise would have costed VSP crore of rupees.
