SURESH PRABHU RELEASES FILM ON NTPC BY SHYAM BENEGALThe Minister for Power Shri Suresh Prabhu released here today, a film on the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) titled "Tamso Ma Jyotirgamaya" ("From Darkness to Light") in its Silver Jubilee Year. The noted filmmaker Shri Shyam Benegal has directed the film. This is the first ever film made on a Public Sector Power Utility. The Minister of State for Power Smt. Jayawanti Mehta also graced the occasion.
The films cast includes well-known artistes like Shri Raghubir Yadav, Shri Ravi Jankal and Shri Lalit Tiwari and the music is composed by Shri Vanraj Bhatiya. Shri Benegal and other prominent actors in the film were also present at the release.
The 45-minute film is in a feature format and revolves around an engineer who begins his career at NTPCs Singrauli plant and retires in the silver jubilee year. The script effectively underlines the challenges confronted by the executors of NTPC projects. The human dimensions of camaraderie among the staff of NTPC who are involved in the execution of the projects are beautifully touched upon and convincingly portrayed by the script.
The film takes the viewer through the trials, tribulations, hopes and aspirations of a growing company. Shri Benegal in his inimitable style unfolds the story of NTPC. The shooting of the film was flagged-off in October 2000 and was mainly done in the Singrauli, Rihand, Vindhyachal and some of the other NTPC projects.
